Universal Free School Meals
All children in reception, year 1 and year 2 are entitled to a hot school meal each day. The government provide funding for this. However it is important to inform school if you are entitled to any of the benefits below as the school will receive additional funding of up to £1300 per child. This is know as pupil premium funding. This money will be spent on ensuring that the best quality education and opportunities are provided for these children alongside their peers.
The meals that we provide come from North Kesteven School, and are prepared with fresh locally sourced ingredients daily. The food standards ensure that the meals we provide are healthy and balanced across the week. It is important that young children are given the opportunity to try a range of foods and understand the importance of a healthy diet as part of a healthy lifestyle.
We aim to provide opportunities for you to sample meals with your child, and welcome feedback on the menus which we feedback to the caterers. Children will often try new things when their friends are eating them, and there are staff to encourage them to give things a try. If you have any concerns about your child and their needs please let us know. Monthly menus are sent via ParentMail.
Please make sure that the food is in suitable containers, preferably plastic boxes, and that drinks are not in glass bottles or cans. Fizzy drinks shouldn't be brought into school for lunch.
We are proud of our Healthy Schools status and so we encourage children to bring in a healthy packed lunch. If you would like some help deciding what to put into your child's packed lunch then the School Food Trust website has some great ideas – including low-cost and low-effort menus.
During lunchtime we use our Sports Premium funding for active play times. children learn new games and how to play cooperatively with each other. External coaches come into school twice a week to provide these sessions.
