Woodlands Infant & Nursery School

Holly class

In Holly class we make the transition from the EYFS curriculum to the Year 1 curriculum. Through this, we work on key skills such as fine motor, independence and resilience. Our learning and achievements are celebrated in a variety of ways throughout the day by both adults and children.

We work together as a whole class, individually and in groups to complete our learning which is challenging and exciting in order for us to develop further. Some of our subjects are linked to a topic such as ‘Marvellous Me’ and the children have access to a range of trips, experience days and guest speakers throughout the year.

We use our outside area to enhance, extend and build on our learning and believe that it is important to maximise learning opportunities for all children.

We have a reading area in our classroom which encourages and motivates children to develop their reading for pleasure. In Year 1, the children focus on using their phonics to decode and understand a text and are read to regularly in order to expand their vocabulary and encourage a love of reading.
