Maple class
In Year 2 we build on the skills and knowledge taught in the previous years and work towards developing mastery of key skills and concepts.
To develop a mastery of key skills and concepts, children are actively encouraged to discuss and demonstrate their practical learning to others to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. This approach links in with the new National Curriculum that was introduced in 2014. We have high expectations that inspire the children to aim high and achieve well. We do lots of mental maths activities to develop fluency in metal recall of maths facts. The children are encouraged to use different equipment to support with their learning and are encouraged to work with a partner to discuss and reflect on their learning.
Children read regularly in school and have key common words to learn to read at home which will help them to develop fluency in reading. Reading is the most important subject as a child needs reading in order to master most other subjects. Any reading done at home will help your child to develop their reading skills and fluency at a faster rate. Daily reading and discussions about the text read with your child can put them almost 1 year ahead compared to those children who do not read daily at home.
We enjoy learning about different subjects. We love our science learning and always have fun carrying out different experiments, we learn to make realistic predictions, closely observe what is happening and draw conclusions. We also like learning about places around the world in Geography and about people and events that happened in the past in our History lessons.
