Oak class
Welcome to Reception!
Reception is a continuation of Nursery. Children form relationships and learn together through exciting experiences. We celebrate every child for their uniqueness and encourage this. We ensure that all children feel safe, secure and happy, enabling them to grow as individuals.
In Oak class we believe learning through play is a very important part of our development. Each area of learning and development is implemented through carefully planned opportunities that allow for purposeful play as well as a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated activities.
We provide a stimulating environment that inspires children to learn and enables all areas of development. Within the classroom environment there are lots of areas the children enjoy exploring from the construction, small world and role play area, to the reading area, writing area and arts and craft. We enjoy getting messy at Woodlands! The children relish in choosing activities that appeal to them, following their own particular interests, using their imagination to create games, tell stories and role play.
We use our outside area to enhance, extend and build on our learning. We enjoy spending time outside, constructing dens, making mud pies in the mud kitchen, building vehicles with the large blocks, telling stories with the small world or whizzing in and out of our friends on the bikes. We are always active shooting hoops, building obstacle courses and developing our strength and problem solving skills on the climbing frame and trim trail. We also enjoy our weekly PE lessons where we have the opportunity to use lots of new and different equipment.
In Reception, we continue our reading journey. We take part in Read Write Inc (RWI) phonic lessons each day. During these lessons we are introduced to different phonemes, we work hard on our blending and segmenting and soon learn to read quickly.
